My Mac

Keep in mind that I'm a nerd. I will discuss my computers from time to time.

Most people don't believe me when I say that my Mac doesn't run Mac OS. My Mac is a 12 year old PowerMac G3 Blue and White. It comes complete with a 400 MHz G3 processor, 256 MB RAM, a 40 GB Hard Drive, a DVD burner, and it runs....Debian 5.0.7 PowerPC edition. Here's the proof...
Now, I'm not one of those hippie types that thinks "OH MY GOD! IT'S LINUX! I LOVE LINUX!" No, I'm not one of those people. As I speak, I'm typing on my laptop, which runs Windows 7. Anyways, the reason I'm writing this post is because, I just wanted to tell you all something about this machine.

It runs pretty damn well. It runs an operating system that is only 4 months old, with 12 year old hardware. In fact, I used to run Mac OS X Tiger on it (from 2004) and it ran much more slowly than Debian does. I remember in Microsoft Word 2004, typing seemed much slower than it did in OpenOffice Writer 3.2.

I find it pretty interesting how such old hardware can run so well. It's hardly slower than my year old laptop (with a dual core 2.2 GHz CPU and 4 GB RAM).
